What's the difference in textured inlay vs smoother? Is "smooth" synonymous with matte?

Going off Colquhoun's post, seems like smooth/matte is the way all day.

Is this different from the first group buy? I think at the time the inlay was being called “frosted”? Is that what’s on the left here? And matte on the right?
