YOU may do just fine without him, I don’t think that necessarily translates to the broader PCF sustainability though.

Minus the occasional NAGB (which does seem more frequent lately) where do the chips come from that sustains the classified. A very large number of the chips trading hands on PCF originated from a TCR sale.

Take that away and you really think PCF stays at the current level of participation/membership…?
Yes, I do. Like you said, there's the NAGBs, and there are more than enough chips out there (previous TCR ones or otherwise) to sustain the Classifieds, IMO. What with meetups, custom CPCs, whisky and other facets to the community / hobby, I think engagement levels would still be huge.

Well I didn’t say it would fail without TCR. there would be an effect. If he opened his own sale site the same flippers would hoard and flip at Pcf.

Can’t say for sure cause I never owned any LEs. What I can tell you is the hooker juice on the $1s and $5s was absolutely disgusting.

Other than a few chips here and there, I never wanted to clean another chip again after that experience.
Fortunately I went with the secondary $25s which were all mint, the secondary $100s and $500s were also minty clean.

I think the Empress Joliet might have those beat
$1s look like they were fired from a cannon
$5s were so gummy dirty they stuck together
Cleaned over 1000 by hand
I should have kept more pics

Yeah, I don’t see people rushing to sell out your TRK SETS
It’s almost like They don’t view them as a status symbol because of where they would be buying them from
And they won’t get the clout showing them off over there

And yeah, there have been people over there who said that they have tried to get things at the same sales or whatever but chip room always ends up with them Probably slightly higher offers
I know that someone else tried to get the Elsinor chips But he somehow beat them out of the deal
I could do a sell off and blow up the mail thread!! HAHAH Too bad I don't sell chips!!

Don't sell, let the market determine price with auctions!
I'd rather sell based on comparable prices and be stuck!! LOL!! kidding, I don't really sell chips other than all the extra crap that's accumulated with intent to make a set, relabel etc etc..... and if I feel I'll lose I auction them on ebay where the eyes are to reduce that if possible. Other than one set in the works and selling off a bunch of fodder to get it out of here I am not only in retirement from the cop shop but from chip buying also!! I't feels good to scan for the few chips I need to add to sets and strike out without buying a single chip!! :) When I resume Chip Spa this fall I can have a bit of fun experiencing chips without buying them!!

That is the market though.

I sold 220 of these for $269 in an auction so...

I also have 200 of these, I call them my special project!! 2 chips at a time but they're so hard to get clean!!! But like you I may just dump em.... Perfect stamps but the staining is daunting to clean up! Just out of curiosity did you sell em at PCF or on eBay?

I think $700 potentially could be in play for the NM/M racks of these, the last PCF auction for NM/M of these went for $800, but that was quite a while ago and who knows these days, but these are clearly casino used.

I agree. That doesn’t remove the fact that he is a big part. Classifieds are what it’s about there and it works.
A long time ago, I PM'd Greg at Chip Talk about people being directed to the site because of searching for chips that led them to the classified section there. He got back to me saying he researched that concept and found it to be correct. So he did whatever a website manager would do to take advantage of that. I don't know anything about managing a website or how you get diagnostics/statistics on where your hits are coming from. But evidently he did. The context of that short conversation led me to believe that it didn't occur to him until I mentioned it. I don't take any credit, I just pointed out something I had observed. So the above statement is spot on. It may not have been so obvious back in those days but it's SO obvious now when you look at PCF.

I would agree, anecdotally it would make sense that the majority of traffic at PCF originates from people searching for chips. Thats how I found it - lol. They stay b/c PCF is pretty much the predominant source for chips.

Compare PCF to say RC forums (Arrma Forum) for example. The vast majority of posts are about fixing, modding, racing, experience/opinions, etc., and the classified are a much smaller component of the forum activity (MUCH smaller).

People go to that forum for opinions before they buy, then stay for the wealth of information on how to fix, maintain, and improve them. Very few forum vendors selling stuff, and some folks selling used parts, and cars. RC cars/parts are readily available in a 100 different places, so the classified are not really a draw.

I found PCF when I decided to get back in the chip game eight or nine years ago. I went back to Chip Talk, because that’s where I started 20 some odd years ago, only to find traffic was at a crawl. At that time, I wasn’t aware of the drama, and I couldn’t figure out what happened. Further research led to PCF.

I stayed at PCF because that was essentially the only option. Even though there is less traffic here, I check this site before PCF. I truly appreciate Danny providing another option for us.

Ah, I did see the seller state that and Jacks is a good dude for sure.

But I also remember that statement and subsequently being linked the sale thread from elsewhere (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/thre...hc-leaded-w-shaped-inlays.117438/post-2414912). Still not sure where the $700 figure came about, since these appear to be the same chips, but maybe it was elsewhere.
This is totally fair. I got two racks of the quarters. One from this sale and the other I paid $700 for actual mint quarters.

But these chips were from that sale and I paid ~$4/chip average. But the $1s and $5s were barely better than tires (and less rare than the fracs). So clearly the fracs from that set were making up more than $4/chip. So I would say they were "worth" about $500-$600 of the value in that set.

I have had good luck with auctions where I felt that I got 90%+ of the price I would get for selling them and holding out. But the risk of auctions is sometimes no one is paying attention or it's just a bad week to sell and you lose out.

I'm fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to try a lot of chips (besides leaded TRKs) and I see some losses like this as a cost of the hobby. I know I could minimize it if I were more patient. I'm just not one to bump threads for 3 months to make/save $100.
