Set collector who acquires them one at a time lol
That is the way for anything nice these days! Sometimes find a chip a month... sometimes find 2 a year! The two priority sets both found additions with my "mail pron" last week

Even one chip is a step in the right direction.

And down to one more frac! The goal is 80... older pic

Just finished the 3rd rack of $5s so about time for a new photo... but it is true that the best sets are the LONGGG slow builds!

The one I WISH I could build but never going to happen at this point with soo many people hunting the same chips

As far as my INTENTIONAL collecting, I’m a very specific singles guy. Like several others, I’m trying to get one $5 chip from every Nevada casino that ever existed. There are around 1070 in the list and I have 69 to go. If anyone here has chips from casinos in the excel file below, hit me up.

As for sets, the only REAL set I have is a carousel of chips from Smith’s North Shore Club ($1 - $100 denoms) in pristine shape. My intention is/was to use them at home poker games but haven’t had time to set up a game. Someone would have to make a REALLY decent (not too book value, but… decent) to get me to part with it. I have several stacks of well used chips from the Ritchford Hotel which are kind of cool but not super shiny like I see most set collectors displaying.

I guess both. I only collect singles from casinos and card rooms I play at though. I collect them as much for the memory of playing there as I do for the actual chips.

My original intention was to have a cash set and a tournament set. Now I have a couple cash sets and am working on having a custom set made. You can see where this is headed.

That’s coming along great, Colter. Absolutely love it. What is your end goal?
ultimately id like to have somewhere around

200 x fracs, 200 x 1s, 400 x 5s, 200 x 25s, and 100 x 100s. maybe a barrel of 500s and 1ks.

Id also like them to be all different chips when complete (except fracs) Ive probably still got about 60 or more duplicates mixed in but i want it to stay pretty playable so I have not weeded them all out yet. Im only buying chips I dont have now. Ive probably got atleast a couple years to go before it will be considered complete. Its fun hunting the singles but its crazy expensive to build this kind of set. Atleast you can space it out for a few years instead of doing it all at once though.

I really wish I would have thought of the rat Rod idea. I have a stupid singles collection that I started about 25 years ago. The rat Rod concept actually gets use out of chips that just normally would sit on a shelf. Your set is coming along great.

Collector? Not really. From the beginning all I wanted was a playable set of the best chips like the casinos used. Well, I've had them on a one set in, one set out basis: probably 5 or 6 times not including cheaper "retail" chips, probably 5 or 6 of those as well. That being said, I wish I had kept every clay set that I owned at one time or another. If that was the case, I guess I'd be a set collector but sadly its not the case. 😞
Because of family responsibilities and such, I couldn't justify keeping more than I really needed, which was one playable set. Not complaining here, just saying sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. I still love chips though!
