My first post and love the format. So for me it is mostly singles but I also collect 1.00 Las Vegas chips in groups of 5. However, I had to limit my collection to just Midwest and Vegas 1.00 chips.
For sure we all have to figure out our limitations!! Well unless you want a house made of chips!!

I have a house made of chips already so it is too late for me. I think the last time I looked I could list 500 chips a month on eBay for 3 years and not repeat. That does not include any chips from my collection.

Ok, so here are my thoughts on singles collectors, vs sets. This is not about various board and who said what.
I applaud any attempts to get both sides sharing...and even talking.
But there is a divide. Singles' collectors get a chip and put it in a plastic ring. They don't shuffle them, they don't play with them. This is different from set collectors and users.
And, again coming from the "singles" side, many just don't get the idea of a set...period. Why would you have so many "duplicates"... On occasion I am able to pick up a barrel from a singles collector who asks me...seriously...if I am buying these to sell 19 of them...I don't mention that I will be shuffling them at slow times during the day because it would break their hearts.

so that to me is the divide, rather than who was rude to whom on what board. And no, I have no idea how to bridge this divide either.

Member #2 checking in! Set collector all the way... literally gave away almost all of my singles, except sample sets.

Glad to see things are going well here!

An interesting look at collecting Casino and Poker Chips. Are you Sets or Singles and why?
I'm a sets guy. Every set I have has a meaning to me personally. My Rivieras as some of you know are from my days growing up at the Riviera in Las Vegas.
My Mandalay Bay Set is where I've been since leaving the Riv. The Holiday's and Pick Hobsons were the first hoard I stumbled on. Naturally in the sets crowd we actually put the sets in play at home games, meet ups and Tourneys. I've always said "It aint a poker chip if you don't play poker with it. I have some singles that are very rare or just beautiful and would never be played.

I like to think of building sets as reuniting chips separated for many years and are now back as a playable and useful thing.
We do mostly singles but love to look at all the pretty sets and racks

Set collector here, what am I going to do with a single chip - lol.

Seriously though, I can see the appeal for singles collectors, just never had much of an appeal to me.

Moar is better!
I think both our great. Singles are more for the higher end and rarer chips

With great thought
