Okku's Historical Casino Videos & Random Fun Stuff

This time we talk about something that I generally didn't want to talk about, but decided that it needed to be as there were other people in the community also putting their input into it. Recently there have been updates being put onto the ChipGuide about certain casino chips being considered as a "hoard alert" because they are being used in home poker games. Meaning that there's a possibility that someone might have a few racks of something or even a barrel of a more rare chip. That's all a possibility, but it also depends on what chip it is and how rare it was to begin with. I know that quite a few of the chips being posted as hoard alerts are close people to me and they are just as confused at everyone else as to why these updates are being made. Hope you enjoy!

Great rant Oscar! I will ad this opinion coming from the perspective of a card player turned set collector.
I fell into the hobby through poker. It seems to me what singles collectors don’t or can’t understand is that the chips become more valuable in sets than they do as singles just sitting there.

Chips in a set have more than just one purpose. Not only are they beautiful to look at, they also make reliving history possible.
With a set of chips and some imagination, one can kind of relive almost any table game from any particular casino in which they’ve got a set for.
I like to describe my personal card room as “Just like being there.”

Set collectors drive up the value of chips because as they are accumulated into sets, it makes singles even more rare. Anyone who’s spent time accumulating enough rare chips trying to complete what in turn could become a rare set can attest to this. Creating a set from lost and scattered history (chips) from long gone casinos from the past is ultra challenging.

I challenge any singles collector to set out on that personal journey and then tell me the chips have become devalued.

Just like being in a card room in Reno circa 1960s. Ask yourself, what price can one put on reliving history? You can’t relive history with a single chip, you can only see history with a single chip.

Reliving history is priceless!

Welcome back! Today we quickly talk about the 30th CCA Convention that happened last week at the South Point Casino here in Las Vegas, NV. It was 3 days of fun, people getting to sell, buy and trade casino collectibles to vendors from across the world. I was able to go yet again thanks to my work (Spinettis). I was able to find stuff for myself and for buddies that weren't able to make it. Along with that I updated you on what's been going on in my life and other things that have been happening since my last upload.

The background in that pic seems representative of the show, underwhelming turnout despite the fact that Spragg and company say it was better than normal.

Maybe if it was actually on the Strip or Downtown it may have gotten better traffic. Not many folks want to travel that far away from the afore mentioned locales. But I'm still beating this dead horse as I did so many years ago. Just because they are getting a good rate, doesn't make sense to keep it where the foot traffic doesn't supply the needs. I petitioned for Downtown years ago, but the Strip Snobs would not have it, instead they went way off strip. SMH.

Today we talk about something that I just learned about a few weeks ago when I saw a thread on PCF talking about 43mm Casino de Isthmus City $1k chips. A user by the name @Oscargambles found about 80 of these (don't believe it was a rack), but he was able to find them somehow and brought them to the chipping world! This was the first time I had ever seen 43mm CDI chips and for some reason 43mm fantasy Paulson chips too. I was lucky enough to get one of these from one of my good friends Karl (@DirtyTIVA) and now it's part of my collection thanks to him. This lead me to asking my boss, Mikko, if he knew that Paulson had made 43mm fantasy chips and he said, "Yes!" Why I didn't know this before blew my mind, but then we got to talking about the Winners Club chips and how they had multiple different sizes that were made, not just 43mm chips. I believe the larger chips were actually no mold chips if I remember correctly. I'm sure we'll see more 43mm fantasy chips come out in the future now, but we'll have to keep our eyes open! Hope you enjoy!

Today we talk about something that came into conversation this morning with Emilio Soto and I as we were talking about Brass Elephant chips and then the recent find of Adolfo's casino chips out of California. The idea was that many people are building sets now a days and there are still those people that are collecting "sample sets" (one of each denomination or style of chip from each casino). I've seen plenty of the set builders that have singles collections as well, so the idea was that there are these harder to find chips coming out and it's going to peak the interest of many people trying to get these chips. Will it be that chips will be traded more often than sold to try and fill in these final spots for the sample sets instead of selling chips to buy the missing piece with cash? That's a possibility and I'm sure that many would be open to this or something similar. I actually like the idea because it keeps chips moving in the hobby and they aren't locked up, but I'd love to hear what others think! Hope you enjoy!

Welcome back! Finally finally back with another upload. It's been a hectic last month with so much going on in life. Aili and Delilah both were sick at one point, Delilah first and then Aili which wasn't fun for anyone. I was watching Delilah making sure that Aili was able to work and then a few days later/week or so and Aili gets sick so I had to make sure that she was doing okay, on top of making sure that Delilah didn't get sick again.

I haven't been buying many chips, but I've been trying to sell a set this past week on PCF which you can find at this link: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/860-indiana-grand-ig-cash-set-pri-sec.109164/

Work has been good, busy and hectic as well. We had our printhead go out on our large printer so I was trying to source a new one for a few days, making sure that we got the right one and got it as soon as possible. We were backed up on custom orders so we were just able to get everything out this past week which was a nice sense of relief. Life has been amazing, filled with smiles as always! Can't complain! See you in the next one!
