Pics don't do these chips justice. Playing with them in person was a real treat. The hot stamp allows the base colors to really stand out on this set and these chips look great in stacks.

I'm bad with photos, but any photos are better than no photos, right? We've been getting in some 25c/50c as well as some limit. I'm very impressed by these chips in person.

I’ve been following Forrest’s thread over at Orange and the chips really do look great along with the card playing competition. Always a treat to sit at the table with Paulo.

I found myself on the Chip Vault website again today. Just drooling over the hot stamped tourneys.

I prefer these over the Tigers (not that I have that choice) but the US to AU conversion rate definitely puts them out of reach.

I’ll continue to admire from afar.

Jim,

I know that you and I have had some misunderstandings back over on orange from when you had those auctions over on your site, with the VIP lists and payment methods, blah blah. It's easy to comment from the peanut gallery, especially online to people you've never spoken to in person.

Congrats on your successful sale of these beautiful chips. I admit that the hotstamps aren't my cup of tea, but you certainly held down the fort better than ol' Ken. And much less drama, to boot. This was, to me, how NAGB sales should be done. Even better when you reveal it in spectacular fashion in a fun home game.

I hope to play with these at least one time down under!

Jacob

The home game was an absolute blast! Got my set in the mail today and couldn't be more pleased.

Jacob,

All good. People have different perspectives. I've been around long enough to know that not I'm not going to get it right 100% of the time for 100% of the people. I try not to take the criticism personally and try to not get caught up in the heat moment... (that only came with age). But after I've given it a little time, I go back and see if there was anything I could do better. I won't beat the VIP list thing to death but will just say it's motivation was to help my son raise money for charity.. there was no other thought behind it. In the end it didn't create a secret group of people dealing behind closed doors.. it just provided you and everyone a public list of the majority of my top patrons over the past 25 years in the business.

On the Faro Dunes sale.. thank you for your compliments and I've honestly been overwhelmed by the amount of positive feedback coming from all corners of the chipping hobbyist community. I've haven't been a hot stamp fan traditionally but they have really grown on me over the last year. The cash set was actually supposed to be an inlay set but the hot stamp just looked better in my opinion. Whether chippers agree or not, I believe casinos using clay chips will more and more utilize hot stamps for their low value chips. The trend has already started and it may not end at the frac and $1 value chip.

Regarding Ken, I try not to criticize other vendors, their ideas or methods. To each their own. I will say this however.. I see a lot of value in what he did. The shear scale and detail of this Paulson project should be recognized (whether you like the design etc or not). This was a MASSIVE undertaking... and he put a ton on the line financially to bring these to a very niche and fickle market. Regarding pricing etc.. No one including myself knows what it cost him to produce this not to mention the financial risk he took. In the end, it is what the market would bear. Personally, I like the design and would consider trading for some of his chips. I learned a lot from reviewing his sale and some of the reactions, positive and negative.

Finally regarding the reveal.. the general idea of making a chip and rolling it out during a meet-up was formed during a late night poker game while I was attending my first meet-up. It is why the the cash set is made up the way it is.. because that is generally what is being played. The tournament set is a 'by the book' set-up for chippers. They were made by chippers, for chippers and debuted at a chipper event.. pretty simple.

As always.. Best Regards,
Jim

Very well stated @The Chip Vault.

Hot-stamps just have to be cheaper to make than inlays. With most casinos still using Paulsons moving to hot-stamp RHCs, there is no way anyone is going to convince me otherwise. I'm sure you'd know better than anyone if allowed to divulge.
