Nitzilla in Black Hawk

The game was great (50c/$1 NLHE), my high point was +$350 but when I kept losing my 80/20 favorites.......I ended up down $170 for the evening..... :(
Only snapped 2 pics.....only during the high point... :sneaky: the big bad beat was when I jammed 65o on an 8779 board and the guy tank called with TT and the river was a Jack.......boo....

I did hit quads twice though, one was a Double board bomb pot with 84o the boards ran out 79TT6 and 42544 and I scooped! Then I had 77, called @kyle's raise preflop, flop was 27Q, we get it all in against his KK and the Turn was 7......so somehow I managed to keep the loss to a minimum but I really should have won piles instead........

So my 2024 resolution is to track my big hands better regarding the action. I often don't remember the positions or betting leading up to the bigger moment....so I'm going to work on that. I had installed a free iOS Keyboard app called "Poker HH" in ~2019 but I never think of using it, so I am going to start!

On with the hands from Thursday's 1/3

PAHWM (Play A Hand With Me):
Here's the action I think happened, I only really know the Turn action in detail....
~$300 effective stacks
Preflop: Hero in HJ calls $3 with XX, BB raises to $13, Hero calls
Flop: A72 rainbow, BB bets $15, Hero calls
Turn: A (here is where it gets interesting) BB Checks, Hero bets $50, BB raises to $125, Hero jams for $210 total, BB ?????
What do you do in BB's spot with anything but an Ace (or Full House Obviously)......? and What do you think I had?

Another hand:
~$400 eff stacks
Preflop: Hero is in HJ and raises to $10 with KsQs, OMC calls from the BB
Flop: Ts8s3s (As Wolfgang would say: BANG!), BB checks, Hero bets $15, BB raises to $30, Hero thinks for a minute and calls
Turn: 6c, BB leads out for $55, Hero shoves All In covering BB for ~$300+ more, BB folds

My thoughts here were: If he flopped the Ace high flush while I flopped the King high flush, then fine, he deserves all of my chips.... but I figured (correctly) that he only had the Ace of spades and was loading his bluffs to that range more than a nutted range. A few minutes after the hand, he told the guy to his right that he had the As with a straight draw, so I'm guessing As9x..... I just knew that I didn't want to see another Spade and when I called the flop raise, I kept thinking to myself, no spade, no spade, no spade...... LOL

Last interesting hand:
~$300 eff stacks
Preflop: Hero is MP+2 and calls with AJo, Button (a younger more aggressive type) raises to $13, Hero calls
Flop: Ax6x2h, Hero checks, Button bets $15, Hero calls
Turn: Th, Hero checks, Button bets $35, Hero calls
River: 6h, Hero checks, Button bets $80, Hero tanks (felt like 2-3 minutes...) and calls
Button says "Nice call" and shows 9d8d and says "I missed"

My thoughts: I'm not a big fan of offsuit Aces, even 'big' ones, and so I decided in that moment to just call AJo and then call the raise since it was heads up, multi-way or if a 3-bet came, I would fold...
Then, I hit an Ace, so while I realize I could be getting reverse implied odds, I felt for a 1/3 game that my hand was under-repped *just* enough that I needed to proceed.....
It was really on the river where I was in the blender....there was just this nagging thought in my mind that while yes it seemed like I had an Ace, it was just too strong to fold, and while I realize it's losing call most of the time, I just had to see it......maybe my bluff meter was tuned in or something, but I felt there were enough weaker Aces that would think they were value betting. I was really only worried with AK, AQ and AT and yet there were more bluffs and weaker Aces that pushed me over the call line..... so I flipped a chip in and heard those magical words "Nice Call"....... ;)

So, let's discuss the first hand and let me know what you think I had and what do you do if you're the Villain holding JJ-KKs or what?

Ok, I'll just follow up on the one hand:

Why I asked what do I have, it's really because it DOESN'T matter..... what I realized while playing this hand and against this particular Villain was that HE didn't have an Ace, so when I shove for just ~$85 more, what hands can he really call with that can beat 3 of a kind, which I was representing and felt with a high degree of confidence that he didn't have.....

Anyway, the result was he folded after a bit of tanking and I quietly slid my pocket 33s towards the dealer.......:sneaky:

Yeah, I’ve been going there more recently. I tried to like Monarch but the action there is a little too crazy….. and I can’t stand the chips or the tables (horrible wood racetracks). Ameristar used to have bad lighting (they fixed the darkness issue) and only a few tables, but they seem to have found a promotion that works as I was there on a Thursday and they had 9 tables running with 20+ on the waitlist…..
I would play more at the Horseshoe if they could ever get a 1/3 game going first instead of the stupid 2/10 spread limit shit….. so you have to wait around for them to start a 1/3….

MSPT alert! I will be heading up to Bally's for the MSPT event this coming 17th-29th.
I'm really looking forward to the Milestone Satellites which I haven't played before. Instead of having to grind until there is X% of the field left, you just have to accumulate the set amount of chips and then you exit with a seat and they take those chips out of play.
From what I've heard on other poker podcasts, they are a pretty cool way to do satellites...........we shall see. :)

As always I will post pics and updates here. So 'watch' this thread to stay up to date.

Tagging the locals: Inapinch Mr. Eifler
I'll be going up Tuesday and then depending on how that goes, possibly Thursday and/or Friday and then Sat and hopefully Sunday for Main Event Day 2......
Stay tuned!
One of these days, I’d like to join ya. Money is tight this week, so I’ll regretfully pass, but please tag me for future trips.

Good luck bud!!

Sounds good. Looks like the MSPT kick off event is going bananas up there. 210 entries on a Thursday, already 351 today, I don’t know what Wednesday 1a was but they still have tomorrow as well. Looks like easily 800+ entrants for the $360….. I quit playing the $360 multi day events because they just aren’t worth it IMO. That’s why I’ll be going up next week instead for the ME. I’ll post updates for sure

WSOP is definitely worth it, I always recommend the Monster Stack to 'new' players. Gives you the closest feeling of the Main Event without the $10,000 price tag.... :)
Have to agree Chad. The Monster Stack event at the WSOP in my opinion is the best bang for the buck and I like that it’s in traditional freezeout format.

I think it would be most beneficial to HelluvaLady23 to maybe hit up a WSOP circuit event first just to get a feel for playing in such large fields. I’m pretty sure the WSOP Circuit schedule includes a stop at Horseshoe Baltimore on the schedule. It used to in the past.

Entry fees are sometimes as low as $250 for many of the Ring events. Usually the events have rebuys up to levels 9 or 12 so you would be amongst some loose play till at least the dinner break usually.

Maybe a Borgata Winter Open event next January HelluvaLady23. I’d make a trip back east to visit my old AC stomping ground.
