Is this different from the first group buy? I think at the time the inlay was being called “frosted”? Is that what’s on the left here? And matte on the right?
That is a great question. I'm guessing the "frosted" was by default on the last GB. I like what I got, but seems like matte is the clear winner.

I don’t know. I love my Playboy set and think the “frosted” would look great on my next set. the one on the right in that pic is too clean looking IMO. Maybe I need to see more examples.

I have both the textured and matte, but not on the same inlay/sticker/label. I will try and see if I can take a pic of one next to another and get the right look, but it is going to be really tough to get it to show up in a pic. I don't have the glossy/shiny as I am not sure that would ever be best.

I am not a professional at taking pics, but at the same time I know my way around a camera. I could probably figure out a way to get a better pic, but in order to see the effect in a pic requires lighting that is pretty much a no-no in photography as the light source needs to be into the lens as opposed to behind. I am sure most are familiar with taking a pic right into the sun and the pic will always look like you are looking at silhouettes. This is the same as that or you won't really see it. The reason for this is that the camera is taking its light reading from the sun, but peoples faces are in the shade/not brightly lit.

whatever....hopefully you can get a feeling for the difference between the two.
Matte on the top and textured on the bottom. In hand they both look great. I know that @Colquhoun and some others have voiced their opinion that they like the matte, but I have to say I really like the textured too. The printing might look a bit more crisp on the matte, but the textured adds this extra rich feeling to it. Hard to explain, but it is really nice!

Hard to put it into words, but yes I agree
I think that’s my thing. Like you said, matte may be more “crisp” but textured is fantastic IMO. I also feel like with the older/vintage designs textured would be the way to go. Certainly not trying to make everyone second guess themselves. Again, just my opinion.

I appreciate you taking some more pictures.

Thanks guys. So what I've been able to deduct is the chips from the first GB are matte, and match the Pioneer Greek mold inlays (which are known to be matte). The top 6 are matte, and the 1 at the bottom is a Gear over-label - taken in various light. Not sure if it helps anyone

@Nanook could you please provide more pictures of the textured from above?

I don’t think those are matte. Those look like the textured or “frosted” that they were called at the time

idk, maybe....I am pretty sure the River Rats are Textured @Himewad ?

@Nanook could you please provide more pictures of the textured from above?

The only chips from the above pic that I actually have are Cap-Dash Pick Hobson and Himewad's River rats.
My Read is that:
Textured:
Pick Hobson and Himewad's River rats are both are textured, but I guess I could be wrong. Both look similar to me as far as the finish on the label and both look similar to some Tina BTP on the new Greek mold that I have. I would be surprised if all 3 were not the textured labels.
Matte:
I have Samples from both the Tina Web mold with a Sunset Beach and Azteca on the Tina New Greek mold that both look like Matte. Both look very similar to one another and look like Matte to me and nothing like the others above

All of the chips I have are sample sets and I did not personally order any of them so I am just going by what they actually look like in hand. If I am wrong, I am wrong.

I would describe Tina’s textured labels as a bubble finish not cross hatched or even close. I’m thinking when I finally order complete sets of the things I really like I will make my own labels or have gear do them with a cross hatched laminate that more closely matches the chip.

I would say they have a bubble finish too. Not a real standard type of laminate I guess...

Still nice, but not the best imo

The Pioneer Club on the Greek mold were done with textured. The Cap Dash were matte/semi-gloss.
The base color vinyl for the textured is a bright white, while the matte looks white straight on, but has silvery, pearlescent qualities when angled to the light.
The textured feels great, but the matte makes the colors a bit brighter. The textured is also very shiny when held at an angle to the light. The matte doesn’t reflect hardly at all, it just looks brighter.
Textured on the left, matte on the right:

I’m biased because I prefer the matte much more…the bright colors and no glare have me sold, but I also love smooth inlays on clay chips. However, if you really like textured inlays, these textured labels may be a better fit for you.
Truth is, they’re both beautiful and MILES ahead of previous standard ceramic printed chips.

The Matte (aka semi-gloss) are smooth.

The textured (aka frosted) have a texture to them.

I was amazed when I first saw the Lucky7 chips in person with the matte labels. That outer ring and logo are actually light gray in the art, but when printed, you would swear it’s silver ink.
It’s a very cool, unintentional effect.
