I just bought this chip on Ebay for $55. At any time there are a couple selling there for around this same price.

Not a rare chip since there are 899 other brand new ones out there but IMHO a cool early chip with a great back story.

In 1960 when the chips were to be delivered to the Desert Inn, manufacturer Ewing ran into issues with their Nevada gaming license and the chips were never delivered.

900 $2.50 chips were produced and all nine boxes were purchased from the manufacturer in 1995. Most chips were quickly sold, the buyer supposedly still has one box left.

Their Desert Inn $5.00 and $25.00 cousins also featuring the Joshua Tree were produced on the more boring HCE mold can be found in used condition for $500+ on Ebay.

IMHO this $2.50 chip offers a lot of bang for the buck: a 60+ year old chip in perfect unplayed with condition, a historic Vegas casino, the best looking mold ever, and a neat story of its existence.
