As I was reading the thread about The Chip Room sale(s), I saw some comments on previous TCR offerings of other chips which included casino chips on the RHC mold. When I saw those sales come up and I noticed they were RHC chips, I immediately put them out of mind for any attempt to buy.

Before hair covered knuckles rain down on me, let me state this is strictly MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION.

I'd guess that as Chip aficionados, we all have our own preferences and dislikes on chips. Mine is that I HATE Paulson RHC mold chips. The hats are too close to the edge of the chip. Any wear seems to affect them more and used RHC chips appear to me as the crappiest looking (compression clay) chips I've ever seen. Yes, they are Paulson chips. I've owned Paulson chips and I say "so what?". I wouldn't buy a bottom of the line Porsche that was beat up just so I can say I have a Porsche. Is RHC the "bottom of the line"? They probably cost the same as THC chips to manufacture? Not sure, but I loathe them nonetheless.

The RHC mold has a slightly larger inlay area which allows more room for graphics. Not a bad idea. But I'd prefer anything from Blue Chip or even CPC/ASM that have a larger inlay area over the RHC mold. Sure, I've seen some used THC chips with a hard knock that nicked the edge down to the outer ring, but these are heavily abused. It appears that overall, the THC chips wear better and look better than used RHC. Let the beatings commence.

I think most would agree with your assessment. I feel I’m one of the few odd men out on this. I actually love RHC chips.

There’s no doubt their wear can be troublesome, but I love the feel and sound. I just like a variety. I’m probably one of the few that absolutely loves plastic and ceramic too.

Of all the chips, CPC are probably my least favorite. Yes, I would buy plastic and Tina’s before CPC. There are some brilliant artists that can do CPC justice, but I’m definitely not in that category. CPC colors, and especially spots, just do nothing for me. They feel so cheap to me as well. Their cost, and the fact I’m not a Spraggy fan in the least, easily makes it a pass for me on CPC.

this post was a roller coaster for me :cool::mad:

I agree that CPC color offerings leave a lot to be desired. The pricing puzzles me as well. I know they will say it's labor intensive to do a chip with 618 spots, but the price is Level 8??? Funny, you can get 614 spots for Level 2 price! Then if you want 6D18 spots with 2 colors that is also Level 8, weird. It would be silly to get single color 618's when you can get double color 6D18's for the same price! I guess making 1/8 inch inserts is difficult? It is what it is I guess, as they are the only clay manufacturer other than Paulson (Angel) that I know of. If there are any others still making compression molded clay, please tell us about it!

This is by far the most egregious part. I literally cannot join TCB.

I realize most CPC sets leave a lot to be desired, but playing with a true custom set that just nails it is my favorite thing to felt right there along with buttery lead. Some colors are meh, but it's on the designer to utilize them all properly and work with or around them properly. The only thing I can really agree with is the weight is a tad low, which doesn't bother me, but it is obviously an issue for some people that I won't discount. I still think the top molds look (besides Jockey), sound, and feel great. So ultimately, while I do like RHC more than most, they’re not nearly on the same level as a good CPC set to me.

I gave up on RHC chips when I got my first set! LOL Became a THC snob quickly. But mostly I have to say I’ve become a real TRK fan. When it comes to chips older TRK’s are simply the Rolls Royce of poker chips while thc are surely a Cadillac. Rhc’s are akin to the pacer or gremlin. While there are some really nice RHC sets I've divested almost completely from RHC's

I've got about 10 games on my RHC Jack Cincinnati chips (that were unused when purchased) and I have to say they are VERY nice to play with now they are broken in. A big factor with RHC (for me) is that they are a reasonable cost compared to the THC. It's an less expensive way to get into the great Paulson colours that just aren't available on CPC. It's like my spotted Lady Luck hotstamp's, no - they aren't as nice as the the Aztars, but they cost a lot less to acquire and were attainable. Not everyone was buying chips 15-20 years ago and not everyone has WW levels of $$.

You just spoke my mind.

I think I am more of a condition snot over THC snot as in I rather play with Mint/Excellent RHC over Used THC and hell no to worn THC

Just about everyone is agreeing with each other in this thread...

THC is the best.

RHC middle road for the availability... and because of that, the price.
I'll insert my own opinions here: they are not as bad as THC snobs would want you to believe... especially leaded, which wear better. But THC closely out does them.

CPC for your own truly customized chips.

TRK... I haven't had the pleasure to play with a set of these, so I can't comment. Probably because of the Rolls Royce price.

I don’t need to weigh them so precisely. I just can’t stand looking at RHC chips. The sight of that mold makes me angry. Still, I’ll buy a set at least every couple of years. Then I’ll get them and I’ll look at them and I’ll sell them.
(Doesn’t mean they’re not good chips. They’re just not for me.)

Funny enough, when I first started chipping I preferred RHC over THC. I felt the THC mold was too busy with the extra border line.

I also didn't like hot stamps and now have a couple large hot stamp sets.

But I get it, I feel the same about old school ceramics. Worn ceramics are garbage.

To be fair, I think you get angry just from looking at the cloud.

Also, people are over inclined to find fault in RHC too readily.

They make RHC sound worse than Slugged plastic / Tina at times

I hate ceramics, and plastics. ChipCo? More like ChipNO... am I right?
They don't sound right, they don't feel right, and they don't stack right. They as so slick, a soft breeze will knock over a barrel. That's what grinds my gears.

I don’t mind some Bud Jones plastics
Maybe one set max
New bright ceramics are ok but I’d maybe have one tops as well
